DJ and Chowder then go trick-or-treating which they previously thought they were too old for. Monster House is a 2006 American animated supernatural horror comedy film[3] directed by Gil Kenan in his directorial debut and written by Dan Harmon, Rob Schrab and Pamela Pettler. The plot revolves around a neighborhood being terrorized by a sentient haunted house during Halloween. The film features the voices of Mitchel Musso, Sam Lerner, Spencer Locke, Steve Buscemi, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kevin James, Nick Cannon, Jason Lee, Fred Willard, Jon Heder, Catherine O'Hara, and Kathleen Turner. Even local teenagers, such as the hooligan boyfriend (Jason Lee) of DJ’s babysitter Elizabeth (Maggie Gyllenhaal), harbor hair-raising memories of past encounters with Nebbercracker and of rumors about the grisly fate of his long-gone wife. Like the latter film, Monster House uses motion capture to transfer the movements of real human actors to CGI characters.

Release Date

DJ has been spying on his elderly neighbor Mr. Horace Nebbercracker, who confiscates any item landing in his yard. After DJ's best friend Chowder loses his basketball on Nebbercracker's lawn, DJ is caught by Nebbercracker trying to recover it but the enraged owner apparently suffers a heart attack and is taken away by an ambulance. That night, DJ receives phone calls from the house with no one on the other end. Eavesdropping on Zee's boyfriend Bones, DJ hears him tell Zee about losing his kite on Nebbercracker's lawn when he was a child, and that Nebbercracker supposedly ate his wife. When Zee's boyfriend Bones later pays a visit, he recalls the time Nebbercracker stole his kite, as well as relating rumors of him cannibalizing his wife.

Running Time

After Zee kicks him out, Bones notices his kite in the front door of Nebbercracker's house, tries to retrieve it and is abducted. And Chowder later investigate and learn that the house is possessed by a poltergeist. On Halloween, they save Jennifer "Jenny" Bennett, who is selling candy, from the house. Jenny calls police officers Landers and Lister, but the house stays quiet when the officers arrive and they dismiss the report. The film was shot using performance capture in which the actors performed the characters' movement while linked to sensors, a process which was pioneered by Robert Zemeckis.

Enraged, it breaks free and chases the group to a construction site. Nebbercracker attempts to distract the house so he can dynamite it, but the house notices and attacks him. Chowder fights it off with an excavator and DJ is given the dynamite. While Chowder distracts the house, DJ and Jenny climb to the top of a crane, and DJ throws the dynamite into the chimney, causing the house to explode. The trio then see Nebbercracker with Constance's ghost before she ascends into the afterlife. DJ apologizes to Nebbercracker for his losses, but Nebbercracker thanks the kids for freeing him and his wife from being trapped for 45 years.

Production

Lego Movie 2 director Rob Schrab hints that Warner Bros. is negotiating a deal with BBC that could bring Doctor Who into the animated sequel. DJ always knew there was something strange about the forbidding old Nebbercracker house across the street. When the house becomes a living, breathing monster, DJ enlists his pals Chowder and Jenny to learn the secrets of what it is that somehow brought the house to life. Suddenly, they find themselves in a hair-raising battle with an unstoppable entity and together, they must save their neighborhood from total devastation. Monsters under the bed are scary enough, but what happens when an entire house is out to get you? Three teens aim to find out when they go up against a decrepit neighboring home and unlock its frightening secrets.

In the basement they find a collection of toys accumulated from Nebbercracker's lawn, as well as a door that opens to a shrine containing the body of Nebbercracker's wife, Constance the Giantess, encased in cement. DJ, Chowder, and Jenny force the house to vomit them outside by grabbing its uvula. Nebbercracker arrives home alive, revealing that Constance's spirit is within the house and that he did not eat her but instead had given her some of the happiest times in her life. As a young man, he met Constance, then an unwilling member of a circus freak show, and fell in love with her despite her obesity.

Inevitably, as the story progresses, spookiness gradually gives way to thrills and finally slam-bang action, culminating in a somewhat overextended climactic set piece. Even so, the filmmakers have a couple of tricks up their sleeve, including climactic revelations both horrifying and poignant, that prevent Monster House from degenerating into no more than Action House. Even the macabre Halloweentown world of The Nightmare Before Christmas was more grotesque than malevolent, populated by ghoulish citizens who only wanted to put on a good show and scare everyone out of their wits without doing any real harm. More recently, Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride offered horror moments of a somewhat more grownup sort, but again depicted a macabre vision of the uncanny that was more misunderstood than malevolent. On “Sesame Street,” Grover, Elmo and their monster cohorts teach kids their ABCs.

Later Bones sees his kite in the doorway (the mouth) of Mr. Nebbercracker's house, but he and the kite are med by the haunted house as he is retrieving it. He found Chowder on the backhoe and tolds him that Mr. Nebbercracker had come back from the dead to get revenge. Later they came to Mr. Nebbercracker's lawn and Chowder rings the doorbell. This also awakens the house, and it tries to grab him with it's tongue carpet and fails. It later roars at DJ and Chowder which caused them to run to DJ's house.

Pamela Pettler is writing the script based on the comic strip and TV series. The project is not related to Tim Burton's shelved stop-motion feature. 20th Century Fox and MGM have revealed the first images from the Poltergeist remake, and they look eerily similar to the first film. A creep clown attacks an unsuspecting kid in the first look at the Poltergeist remake; the full trailer will arrive later today. Dr. Claire Powell explains the difference between a ghost and a Poltergeist to the Bowen family in a new clip from the remake. Poltergeist director Gil Kenan has signed on to direct Warner Bros.' video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy's.

One Halloween, as children tormented her due to her size, Constance tried chasing them away but lost her footing and fell to her death in the basement. Nebbercracker had finished the house, knowing it was what she would have wanted but, aware that Constance's spirit made the house come alive, he pretended to hate children in order to protect them. The next morning, a Westbrook Prep student named Jenny Bennett is selling Halloween candies. DJ and Chowder see her going to Mr. Nebbercracker's house and they rush out to warn her catching her before she is eaten by the house. Jenny then calls Officer Landers and Officer Lister, but does not believe their story. Later the trio seek advice from Skull who is claimed to be an expert on the supernatural.

Chowder combats Constance with an excavator from a nearby construction site, into which the trio then lure her. Swings out on a crane's hook with the dynamite, dropping it into the house's chimney and vanquishing Constance. Finally freed, her spirit briefly reunites with Nebbercracker before ascending to the afterlife; he thanks the trio for freeing them from their suffering.

It received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film, but lost to Happy Feet and Cars, respectively.

That same day, D.J.'s parents leave for a convention, placing him in the care of his teenage babysitter Elizabeth, or Zee. Later, D.J.'s friend, Charles "Chowder" Peterson, loses his basketball on Nebbercracker's lawn; D.J. He appears to suffer a heart attack and is presumed dead by the duo as he is taken away in an ambulance. Monster House centers on a trio of young characters who, like the film’s target audience, are poised on the brink of adolescence. Young DJ (Mitchel Musso) and his chubby best friend Chowder (Sam Lerner) are old enough to be transfixed by the sight of pretty young Jenny (Spencer Locke) sashaying down the sidewalk, but young enough to debate whether you can call dibs on a girl.

Everything he's seen is absolutely true and it's about to get much worse than anything D.J could have imagined. Alas, the film hasn’t got much more respect for parents or authority figures in general. A couple of cops, one a blasé donut-chomping yahoo and the other a jittery, bug-eyed black rookie, add to the general aura of adult incompetence. In a way, Monster House is a bracingly icy breath of fresh air, a tween-oriented family film that is unabashedly out to frighten. It’s an excursion into primal fears of haunted houses and graveyards — of places you don’t want to walk past at night, of dark and sinister forces that are not just spooky or macabre, but downright sinister and even vengeful.

As she tries to get out, she pedals to get it free but it's no use. Just then, Horace Nebbercracker snaps at her and takes the tricycle and removes the wheel to tempt her to go away. A 12-year-old boy DJ Walters spies on his elderly neighbor Mr. Nebbercracker who confiscates any item landing in his yard.
